“The Chef Jeff Project” Cooks
by Kathie Briggs
SYRACUSE.COM- Chef Jeff Henderson, current owner of Posh Urban Cuisine in L.A., successful author/speaker, former cocaine pusher in South Central L.A. and prison inmate for 10 years, has seen it all.
Now he’s anxious to redeem six at-risk (drugs, jail, etc.) young adults who he’s hired as his catering crew. Number six, Adam arrives late on day one and though he impresses with his “South Central Sushi” in a “show me what you got 45 minute cook-off”, Chef Jeff takes this guy to task and it’s going to be hugs or slugs with Adam and Jeff (and everyone else) on every episode.
High roller Jeff relies on this neonatal crew for his first big catering gig – lunch for the cast of Emmy nominated “General Hospital” with interesting results.
Everybody has something to win; for the select six, a $40,000 scholarship to the International Culinary Schools at the Art Institute and a way out of the ghetto if they complete kitchen boot camp. For Henderson, it’s the satisfaction that he could teach these young people to be successful in the kitchen and in life.
Like he says, “I’m gonna give you the boots…you’re gonna tie ’em up”. This show delivers.
